Bill and Ben lifted the poles carefully onto their padded shoulders and were obviously waiting for the order to forward march! as their feet were tramping up and down like soldiers.

Tam was looking at Sven's loaded rucksack. "Damn! Completely forgot about lanterns; you set off—river road—and I'll catch you up. . . ."

It didn't take him long, as we were going downhill and it was a fairly well-worn track. At the end of the first three-quarters of an hour we swung away inland after a short rest, arriving about an hour later at a pretty little wood, with a small stream running away towards the river.
